Adventures You and Your Dog Will Love

If you’re planning a getaway to a dog friendly cabin in Broken Bow, you’re in for a treat – and so is your pup! Surrounded by Beavers Bend State Park and Broken Bow Lake, Broken Bow is full of outdoor adventures where dogs are always welcome. Whether you love hiking, paddling, or just relaxing with a cold drink on a pet-friendly patio, this is the ultimate destination for dog lovers.

1. Hike Together in Beavers Bend State Park

Beavers Bend State Park is a dog’s paradise. With miles of shaded trails and fresh air, it’s easy to spend an entire day exploring together. Dogs are welcome on-leash throughout the park.  Our go to trails are:

·  Friends Trail Loop: A local favorite that winds along the Mountain Fork River with gorgeous water views. It’s a moderate, well-marked loop.  Why we love it:  Easy access to the river where our pups enjoy a quick dip.  Note:  The water can be swift in some areas, so carefully choose where your pup gets in.

·  Beaver Creek Trail: A quiet, less-traveled path through shaded woods and along a peaceful creek. Great for dogs who prefer a calm walk and fewer distractions.  Note:  The rocks can be sharp & slippery in some places.

·  Cedar Bluff Nature Trail: A short and scenic trail that rewards you with beautiful overlook views – ideal for morning or sunset strolls.  The incline can get steep – but it’s fairly short.

Bring water, waste bags, towels, and bug spray.

2. Paddle, Float, or Splash at Broken Bow Lake

Broken Bow Lake welcomes leashed dogs along many of its beaches and coves. You can rent a pet-friendly boat from several different boat rental operators or challenge yourself to a paddleboard session with your pup onboard. If your dog loves water, this is pure heaven.

For something different, try Lucky Dog River Floats on the Lower Mountain Fork River – a local favorite where dogs can safely join their humans on calm river runs.

3. Grab a Bite on a Dog Friendly Patio

After exploring, refuel at one of Broken Bow’s many dog friendly restaurants and breweries. A few local favorites:

  • Abendigo’s Grill & Patio: Upscale comfort food and a spacious, shaded patio.
  • Beavers Bend Brewery: Craft beer and pub bites with a laid-back, dog-friendly atmosphere.
  • Buffalo Grill: Casual fare, open-air seating, and plenty of space for pups. Bonus: It’s walkable from Lazy Pines!

Pro tip: Check their website for live music events (most weekends)

4. Take a Dog-Friendly Scenic Ride

When you’re ready to sit back and soak in the views, take a drive along the Talimena National Scenic Bywayone of Oklahoma’s most breathtaking routes. The road winds through the Ouachita Mountains, offering sweeping vistas, forested overlooks, and plenty of scenic pull-offs where you and your pup can stretch your legs.

It’s especially stunning in fall when the foliage turns fiery shades of red and gold. Pack some snacks, roll the windows down, and let your dog enjoy the mountain air. The drive is peaceful, photo-worthy, and an easy day trip from Broken Bow.
