Alto Lake & Recreation Area (5 minutes away)
A bit quieter than Grindstone, Alto Lake offers a peaceful vibe and scenic walking path around the lake (and longer connecting Eagle Creek Trail), ideal for morning strolls with your dog. It’s stocked for fishing and surrounded by picnic areas, and enjoy the brand new disc golf course! It’s also the closest lake to Lazy Pines, making it very convenient!
Grindstone Lake (20 minutes away)
If you only have time to visit one lake, make it Grindstone (pictured above). It’s dog-friendly, well-maintained, and packed with options—kayaking, paddleboarding, fishing, and several scenic hiking and mountain biking trails that allow leashed dogs. There’s even horseback riding at Grindstone Stables!
Mescalero Lake (25 minutes away)
Located at the Inn of the Mountain Gods Resort, this is a beautiful spot to relax and fish. Dogs are allowed on leash, and the area is known for its clear waters and tranquil atmosphere. The resort offers a variety of lake rentals, bike rentals, ziplining, and golf!
